A greyscale deltaE 2000 average of 1.91 is respectable and above average for a gaming grade display, and there was no noticeable tint with the retail unit Samsung sent. However the gamma is a bit off, particularly on the low end. What you see below 30% grey is too high of a gamma by default, and what this means is dark shades can be darker than they should be. For gamers this might make dark environments harder to spot enemies in, and for accuracy purists well, it’s not quite accurate.
- Additionally for lots of people this doesn’t work on first try but needs several re-burns.

So you should be good unless you got one of the first ever made. Just got a 980 pro 2TB, it came with the latest firmware. I bought a new 980 Pro 2TB a few weeks ago and it came with the latest firmware.
The usual PCs are the basic Intel i5 du jour, so I can’t compare notes with other people. I’m also pretty much the only one doing firmware upgrades with any regularity. This is a real issue though, there is the risk of failure during the procedure, less so than it once was, but then the risk that the update actually performs worse than the previous version. But when you build a Hackintosh with a recent version of macOS this exact TRIM behavior results in boot times of several minutes .
Before the StorageTek SSD there were many DRAM and core (e.g. DATARAM BULK Core, 1976) products sold as alternatives to HDDs but they typically had memory interfaces and were not SSDs as defined. I can’t imagine firmware updates providing tangible performance gains aside from critical issues . I just don’t think it’s really in the interest of these manufacturers to invest in R&D to improve an already existing and purchased product, as lame as that is. Typically, every SSD producer develops a specific SSD firmware update tool for their own SSD drives. To update Samsung SSD firmware, you can download Samsung Magician software and install it on your computer. I know there’s a firmware update out which is already available for Mac users too but they only offer an iso image that only seems to work when used on a self burned CD.

The only potential drawback with the G9 is that you’ll need a good GPU. My NVIDIA 2080 RTX ti had absolutely no problems with the screen running in HDR at full resolution at 240hz. I remember from my first one that i had to upgrade to firmware 1016 to get 120hz in PBP/PIP. I was going to do this for this monitor as well, but it actually has version 1017.
